نوقشت اطروحة الدكتوراه للطالب (محمد غضبان فرحان ) قسم علوم الحياة الموسومة (Water Treatment of a Number of Deep Wells In Kirkuk City by Using Electromagnetic Field Technique and Re-Using the Water to Irrigate the White Sorghum Plant)  The study was conducted on nine wells water   within the city of Kirkuk for the period 1/7 / 2015 until 13/ 6/ 2016 to evaluate the electromagnetic field effectiveness in groundwater treatment. The study focused on the design of a device with different electromagnetic fields it is done by water exposure to electromagnetic fields during water passage through the device. Electromagnetic water treatment  process consists of  two phases , the first  by using different electromagnetic fields 1.4,1.7,1.9 Tesla with the stability of the water passage time 20 minutes ,and the second phase is consists of fixed electromagnetic field intensity 1.9 Tesla with change water retention time  5, 10, 20 minutes during the electromagnetic field  . The study included measurement of some physical and chemical parameters and heavy metals before and after the electromagnetic treatment, and studied the effect of electromagnetic treatment on bacterial counting (total number of aerobic bacteria and total coliform bacteria). The study also included the effect of irrigation by using electromagnetically treated wells water on some morphological and physiological characteristics of white  sorghum plant  sorghum vulgare , (such as height of plant, leaf area, dry weight of plant and dry weight of roots) compared with plants irrigated with untreated wells water. When comparing the results obtained during the electromagnetic treatment with the results prior to treatment stages, it had been found that the increase in the electromagnetic field strength and water retention time affected in the wells water properties after electromagnetic treatment. The results showed a significant decrease in each of the electrical conductivity, chloride, total hardness, free calcium, sodium, TDS, sulfur, BOD, zinc and bacterial content. There were also a significant increase in pH and dissolved oxygen values, and there was not a clear influence of the electromagnetic field and water retention time on total suspended solids and concentration of both lead and nickel. Also, the study showed that there was a significant increase in reducing bacterial content in wells water after magnetic treatment, where the total number of aerobic bacteria decreased by 90% at a field intensity 1.9 Tesla and to 93% at retention time 20 minute, as the total number of coliform bacteria decreased by 94% when the field intensity 1.9 Tesla and the retention time 20 minutes. Irrigation with electromagnetically treated water lead to an improvement in characters of white sorghum plant where the increase in the leg length by 34% and leaf area increased by 36% and dry weight of plant 69% and the dry weight of roots 58% at a field intensity 1.9 Tesla and retention time 20 minutes compared with the plants irrigated with untreated wells water. The study found that when exposing the wells water to electromagnetic field it showed the effect of the increase in the electromagnetic field intensity and retention time as agents of change in the water characteristics for the better, therefor additional studies and researches on electromagnetic water treatment technology are required.
